2nd Leader Board

Weeks 14-19 + 1st HalfBy: The Usual Suhspects, (2024-05-28 15:15:14)

Week 14 - Scheffler is the Master
After playing a little timid and struggling on approach shots early, Scottie Scheffler charged ahead midway through Sunday to his second Green Jacket. Firing back-to-back birdies on 9 and 10 to get a two-shot lead headed into Amen Corner, he added more birdies at 13, 14, and 16 just in case. World number 1 and he showed it. The day was a bit reminiscent of Tiger’s win in 2019, when Amen Corner took out the competition and the rest is history. Aberg looked great for a first-timer too. Happening far too often this season, a "Congratulations!" must once again be issued to Tyson Wigley's Numbermunchers 2! Big bank this time in $300.
Diamond was Scheffler but once again - the separating player from other Scheffler owners was Will Zalatoris finishing 9th
Turd - Justin Thomas was simply atrocious Friday on the back 9 (+7?) to miss the cut by one stroke!

Week 15 - Scheffler is Jacked!
A week after slipping on the green jacket, Scheffler added the RBC Heritage’s signature red tartan plaid jacket to his collection, securing his fourth victory in his last five tournaments! Unbelievable. Also unbelievable is that a Scheffler team (Numbermunchers 2) didn't win the week. Theegala tried to challenge Scheffler, but couldn't get close. Sahith did manage to win the week for Night Putting though, so good enough. Congrats to Ray Reed. Clark and JT banked by shooting -6 on Sunday. Sepp and Morikawa shot poorly and cost themselves a few 100k.
Diamond in the Rough - Sahith (we're sick of Scheffler). And Partirck Rodgers (even though he didn't shoot great on Sunday he was a difference maker.)
Turd of the Week - Byeong-Hun An shot +9 on Sunday OUCH!

Week 16 - Luck o' the Irish
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry teamed to win the Zurich Classic, rallying from a two-stroke deficit after 54 holes and defeating the team of Chad Ramey/Martin Trainer with an alternate-shot par on the first playoff hole. From what I saw, it was more Rory than turd Lowry that got a fat paycheck thanks to one of the best players in the world. Bitter about Lowry, you ask? Yes - I'm sick of this guy this year, almost as much as Numbermunchers 2! I don't know what was harder to watch, Lowry getting paid because of McIllroy or watching "Professsional" golfer Trainer miss a 6-footer for par after chipping a shot that went less than half the distance to the hole! I didn't see what got the pair to -25, but I have to assume Ramey did the majority lol. Mr Hayden's Al Czervik wins the week.
Diamond in the Rough - Only 8 teams own Rory - CRAZY!
Turd - I don't care if Martin Trainer was golfing great through 18 holes, the playoff hole was painful to watch!

Week 17 - Ben Folds on par 5
Ben Kohles’ tee shot on the 18th found the rough but he drew a perfect lie. He blistered a 3-wood to the right of the pin, just off the green. He had less than 30 feet remaining to get up and down and capture his first TOUR victory. The pressure showed when he chunked his pitch and then had to chip onto the green, again from the rough, standing in a greenside bunker. Pendrith reached the green in two and two-putted for birdie after Kohles' 5-foot par putt stayed left of the cup. Pendrith captured his first Tour victory a couple years later than many predicted. Golf can be a cruel game. Jake Knapp will also tell you as much. Scores on Sunday were ridiculously low overall - an entertaining watch. JT & JT won the week and neither played - congrats!
Diamonds in the Rough - Pendrith, Kohles and Rai won Kurt the week. Noren finished 3rd.
Turds of the week - Spieth and Detry missed the cut in a weak field.

Week 18 - Rory feasts on Quail again
What seemed to be a possibly interesting Sunday became BOOOOOORING as soon as I turned it on. Xander faltered and Rory walked away with it in a two-horse race. McIlroy carded a final-round 65, including an 8-under, eight-hole stretch across holes 8-15 (two eagles, four birdies) to seal the deal. 4 wins at this course for Rory - he should have to give the field 2 strokes! Lucky Errant Balls got his 2nd win of the season with Rory and his next highest finisher being Pendrith at 10th! You won't see that happen often in this league...
Diamond - Did I mention only 8 teams own RORY?!
Turd - Xander - I was getting sick of watching him choke.

Week 19 - X Marks His Spot!
Who saw this one coming? Seriously? We'd all gotten so used to watching Xander fade on Sunday, experts were giving him no chance after Thursday's 62! Include me in that group of "experts". Friday and Saturday went as predicted for the X man, setting him up for another forgettable finish in a major (but still getting PAID lol). Then everything went as unexpected! Scheffler fell back after shooting well on the morning he sat in jail. Rory was in form and in the perfect position, faded too. Then Hovland, who has been without question the BIGGEST BUST of 2024 started rolling. And Dechambeau, who played great at Augusta, started banging birdies too! And shockingly, Xander answered the call! What a Sunday...
With one putt, Schauffele laid waste to the old narratives. He had previously played in the final group on Sunday four times this season, one shy of Scheffler for most on TOUR, but Scheffler had four victories while Schauffele had none. Xander golfed great the whole day and made a tough putt after a couple dicey positions preceding it.
Diamonds in the Rough - Xander and DeChambeau got the $300 for The Del's. Well done!
Turds - The policeman that arrested Scheffler - I'm not sure but he must've overreacted just a smidge? Rahm missed the cut. Meronk did too - serves him right, lying turd!

The First Half Drama:
I didn't break down the week-by-week to close the 1st Half, but I was certainly watching. Other than 1st place, it was clear 2nd-6th were going to be up for grabs. And what a final week it was.
1st: The Dolts2 - Mr. Dreiling picked 4 different winning players in the first half to easily secure the top spot. Tough to do without owning Scheffler!
2nd: Dude, Where's My Par - Moved up from 3rd to 2nd
3rd: Multiple Aces jumped from 10th
4th: Everyday I'm Shefflin' became the highest earning of the Scheffler Four - jumping all the way up from 12th with Pendrith and Kohles
5th: Childahl7 held on to earn a little falling from 2nd
6th: Numbermunchers2 - Should we be surprised T-Wigs finished in the money? At least we can all take solace that he did fall a couple spots from 4th ;)

What's crazy is that only 46k separated 2nd-5th place with totals over 31.7 million.
