Week 1 - An was OffBy: The Usual Suhspects, (2024-01-22 15:58:48)

Thankfully, looks like everything was fairly up-to-date, and other than a few rosters that I identified by Friday, things were mostly all good. Almost all the money is in too - so $9,385 is the final pot as originally calculated.

The funny thing is that I happened to reach out to this week's big winner when he had switched two players for another 2 - and you can guess one of those 2 players that was switched in... Sure enough, it was Grayson Murray! And I know what you're thinking - but NO - he made this change before the tourney even got going.

It's hard to sway away from all the hot up-and-comers at 1 million, and it takes courage to go with your gut - Congrats to Andy's SonofJohn1 for the Week 1 win. The only team to take a chance on Grayson Murray.

And what a way to win. Murray had no business making the playoff. Sand save after sand save, he refused to give up. And when it looked like all may be lost on 18, he stuck his approach shot 3ft away to make birdie (unlike Keegan Bradley) and the playoff.

And if that wasn't enough, on the first playoff hole he should've been dead off his tee shot. Sitting on in 3, he had to make a 40ft putt to make birdie as B. H. An looked ready to win sitting only 4ft away. Murray made it and An was off - end of playoff.

Diamonds in the Rough - Grayson Murray. Like Chris Kirk a year before, we have a feel-good story of a man battling alcoholism with a storybook ending. Bradley was a "Bad Buy"... or was he? Byeong Hun An was one of my guys... hard not to put him on the turd list as I watched him shoot great golf throughout the day, only the sh*t the bed when it really counted. Yuan banked too.

Turds - Sahith Theegala, Will Zalatoris and Matt Fitzpatrick missed the cut. And say it isn't so, Pierceson Coody didn't make the weekend either (but he finished strong). Alex Smalltime went +2 in the final 3 holes to miss the cut by 1, including parring the easiest hole 18 - good to see he's keeping form with last year!
